Talking Motherhood With LaLa’s Mom, Nicole Ari Parker’s Mom, Tiny & Toya, & ‘RHOA’ Star-Phaedra Parks…

May 13, 2012 | By:

Celebrity photographer Robert Ector and his team at Taylor-Ector Studios, launched their blog-‘The Dark Room.’

In honor of Mother’s Day, The Dark Room did exclusives with Nicole Ari Parker’s mom,  LaLa Anthony’s mom, Toya Wright and her mom, Tiny, Tameka Foster, Phaedra Parks and Niecy Nash.

Check out some excerpts below:

TDR spoke with Carmen, the mother to LaLa Anthony…

TDR: Was there anything about La La growing up that made you think that she would be a star one day?

Carmen: When La La was a little girl she cut her hair and I was furious, she wanted it to look like Cyndi Lauper and when I saw her I just bugged out. Her grandmother (my mom) was like, “just let her be.” She is not a follower. She’s a leader. My mom convinced me not to get so mad at her. She told me that La La loves to be different. Just let her be because she could be very famous one day. My mom is not alive today but my mom predicated that she would be a star when La La was about four years old. Not only because she cut her hair but because of other things she would do.

TDR: So what’s the best thing about being the mother of a celebrity?

Carmen: The best thing about it is……Well, it’s surreal because I live vicariously through her; I came from humble beginnings. I was raised in the projects Wait, there’s more…

The Full Premiere Episode Of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s “RED TABLE TALK”…

May 11, 2012 | By:

Here’s the full first installment of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s web series “Red Table Talk”, which premieres online this Sunday-Mother’s Day.

One of the topics Jada talks about, is the challenges of being a wife and a mother and trying to find that balance. While she’s assisting her kids with their dreams, assisting her husband with his dreams, and in the midst of that, trying to figure out what her dreams are. She discusses how she forgot how to take care of herself because she was so consumed with being a mom, and her kids were her world.

She discusses the messaging we receive from society, that to be a good mother you have to completely sacrifice everything.

Jada points out that in the midst of seeking our validation and happiness, we look to others like our children and our men to do it for us. We lose our way and forget how to make ourselves happy. She stresses the importance of taking care of ourselves.

This conversation touches on so many points that we all can relate to. I know I can.

“Red Table Talk” will be a series of conversations. I love that Jada chose to do this.

Watch below. Wait, there’s more…
