Blue Ivy turns 1 today, and what a year it has been. Since the grand reveal at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, we knew that everything and anything affiliated with Beyoncé & Jay-Z’s little bundle of joy was going to be BIG.
From the much talked about, closely watched (or at least the glimpses of that baby bump we were allowed) pregnancy and the well-secured labor and delivery at NYC’s Lenox Hill Hospital, Blue’s entrance into the world was nothing short of Epic!
Fun Fact: Our editor gave birth to her son at Lenox Hill too, some years ago. And she and Beyoncé both had January babies.
Any who, back to Blue…
Globe Trotting Baby
Paris, St. Barts, just to name a couple of hot spots, it’s safe to say that Blue is a well-traveled baby. Shortly after her arrival, the family packed up their private jet and embarked on the European leg of the “Watch The Throne” Tour. While her parents rocked out, it’s reported that Blue was usually tucked away in the arena’s private box with a slew of security and her trusty nanny.
It’s never all work and no play for Blue, as the family hit up St. Barts for a getaway last year and cruised around the South of France back in September for her mother’s 31st birthday. Jealous yet?
Gifts Fit For A Princess
If Princess Carter wasn’t already blessed, she has been receiving kick ass gifts since day one. Auntie Kelly gifted baby Blue Ivy this Swarovski bathtub encrusted with 44,928 pink imported crystals. We are sure it fits perfectly in her private bathroom.
With a nursery bigger than some NYC apartments at 2,200-square-feet, Blue is living large. Reportedly she rests her head in this VETRO modern Lucite crib located in the Carter’s Tribeca apartment.
And when she feels like playing with one of her many toys, she has a $600,000 solid gold rocking horse that she can ride, all courtesy of daddy.
The musically gifted parents also enlisted good friend Questlove from The Roots to put together an IPod with all the songs Blue Ivy should know. When describing the project, Questlove mentioned he wanted to fill the IPod with 12,000 songs so it can span the entire alphabet. The best thing about this gift is that it keeps on giving. Here’s what Quest love had to say :
“We have a system now where I’ll re-up it once a year, every Christmas.”
Designers have been showering baby Blue with gifts too. One of Beyoncé’s favorite shoe designers Ruthie Davis customized these kicks for the fashionable tot.
But that’s not all in addition to her luxurious nursery at home Blue has an equally luxurious nursery at the Barclays Center. It is rumored that Jay-Z rents a VIP basement suite for a $1 million a year. So when Jay and B are courtside, little Blue is rolling around in a 7- figure play area.
At just two days old, Blue already made history. On January 9th 2012 Jay-Z dropped “GLORY,” a song dedicated to his daughter and wife. The song featured Blue’s heartbeat and first cries. The song debuted at number 74 on the US Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart and 23 on the Rap Songs chart. Since Blue is credited as B.I.C. on the song, Billboard’s Chart Beat named Blue the youngest person in history to have a song on a Billboard chart.
So now that Blue’s been here for one whole year, what will the Carters do to celebrate? Maybe a big birthday bash in paradise? According to the Sun the Carters will be throwing an over the top birthday party for their toddlerin the Bahamas. Among the lucky guests that will be attending are Gwyneth Paltrow, husband Chris Martin and their two children, Apple and Moses. Seems like the speculations are true, as Beyoncé uploaded a serene photo of a deserted beach yesterday afternoon on Instagram.
What do you get the 1 year-old who’s traveled around the world and has already received gifts fit for true royalty? We can only imagine.
Though we commend Jay-Z and Beyoncé for keeping Blue shielded and protected from paparazzi and media outlets, we’re hoping that B gives us a good clear, no blanket, updated picture to celebrate Blue Ivy’s big day!
Happy Birthday, Blue Ivy!!!
