In an exclusive interview with Uptown Magazine, Tameka Foster talks about her life as a career woman, and most importantly, her life as a mother to her 5 sons.
Here are some excerpts:
Tameka is a single mom with a career like many other women. During the day, while a nanny cares for Usher V (aka Cinco), 4, and Naviyd, 3, and while her sons Ryan 12, and Kile, 10, (children with her first husband, music exec Ryan Glover) are in school, she also has her son Darrin, 21, whom she had at age 19. (His father was murdered before he was born), Tameka runs two businesses. She launched Estella, a clothing and home-decor boutique in Roswell, Ga., in 2010; and KangaZoom, an indoor children’s play facility in Alpharetta, Ga., which opened at the top of 2011.
Tameka, who attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, was already a groundbreaking fashion stylist with iconic sartorial moments to her credit: Lauryn Hill’s trendsetting bohemian Balenciaga; Jay-Z’s game-changing adoption of the button-down shirts; Toni Braxton’s much-ballyhooed body-baring Richard Tyler at the Grammys. Two years ago, Tameka received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Institute of Atlanta for her contributions to fashion and music. She was a success well before a pop star put a ring on it… Wait, there’s more…
