Open Letter To Zoe Saldana On Her Role As Nina Simone…

I for one agree with this blogger and her thoughts on Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone. It’s unfortunate that with all the actresses that physically would’ve been a better choice, and I’m sure even theatrically, they went with a name instead of authenticity.

Zoe Saldana made a statement:

“..why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?”

Because even in the United States where Barack Obama is the president, dark skin, kinky hair and African features are still loathed.

Alicia Keys Talks About What Women Inspire Her Most, Her Son Egypt, Her New Children’s App & More…

This week, Alicia Keys is the guest editor for iVillage. In an exclusive interview, she talks about the launch of her new children’s app, the inspiration behind her song, ‘Girl On Fire’, the women that influence her the most, and her best collaboration yet, her son Egypt, and more.

Check out excerpts and full video interview, below…

On the reporter who influenced her latest single and album title:

Jeannine Amber (Essence) is an incredible journalist…and when I read (her piece)…she said she was like ‘a girl on fire,’ and I was like ‘ahh,’ I am so writing this song because I am. That is me. That is what I want to be…. Who knew a year later that here it is and it’s my first single and the name of the album.

What is a “girl on fire” and what is your favorite line of the song you wrote?

A girl on fire is somebody who is completely themselves…. You don’t have to be like anyone. All you have to do is be like yourself. Find your passion.

There are so many (favorite lines)…I think my favorite part of the song is “she’s got feet on the ground and she’s burning it down. She’s got her head in the clouds and she’s not backing down.” She’s not backing down – for me that’s everything right now.

I’ve been obsessed with different style leggings lately. One of our BUZZ supporters, Dionne, just celebrated her 25th birthday.  She posted the above pic showing off her birthday outfit. I love the leggings, so had to post as our ‘STREET CHIC’ feature!!

Dionne is rockin’ BCBG MAX AZRIA ‘Cameron’ leggings, which Dionne says:

They’re cotton & feel like a sweater for my legs.  I had to keep telling people my leggings aren’t see through…lol.  The color is a nude on me.

Toya Wright was recently spotted with the same leggings… Continue reading STREET CHIC: I’m Lovin’ These BCBG MAX AZRIA ‘Cameron’ Leggings…
